About the Journal

«ACADEMIA: Musicology, Performance, Pedagogy» is a scholarly online journal publishing articles on topical issues in musicology, cultural studies, theory and history of art, and music pedagogy.
The journal publishes scholarly articles whose subject matter corresponds to the following academic specializations:
5.10.1. Theory and History of Culture and Art (Cultural Studies);
5.10.1. Theory and History of Culture and Art (Art History);
5.10.3. Types of Art (Musical Art) (Art History).

The journal is a unique platform that accumulates scholarly knowledge in the field of theory and practice. As a publication of the V. S. Popov Academy of Choral Art, it serves as a conduit for promoting contemporary musicology, the principles of Russian education worldwide, and for studying foreign performance and pedagogical experience and repertoire in Russia. The journal follows an interuniversity strategy, bringing together researchers from all leading universities and research institutions of the country, as well as authors from abroad.

Guidelines for Submission and Publication of Scholarly Articles

For publication in the scholarly online journal «ACADEMIA: Musicology, Performance, Pedagogy», authors are required to submit original scholarly articles that have not been previously published in other printed or electronic editions.

Guidelines for formatting scholarly articles

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to: academia2025@axu.ru.

No publication fees are charged (for all categories of authors, including postgraduate students). No honoraria are paid.

In accordance with Russian legislation, authors transfer non-exclusive rights to publish manuscripts to the founder and publisher of the journal. Authors guarantee that the submitted articles are original works and that the publication rights have not been previously transferred to any third party. Authors bear full responsibility for the content of their articles and for the fact of their publication.

Peer Review Procedure

1. Articles submitted to the editorial office are published on the basis of peer reviews by members of the editorial board and subject specialists. No honoraria are paid for published materials.
2. Submitted manuscripts are preliminarily reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief for compliance with the journal’s scope and requirements. A decision is then made to reject the article or send it for peer review. The review period is up to one month from the date of submission.
3. All reviewers are recognized experts in the relevant field and have publications on the subject of the reviewed article within the last three years. Reviews are stored in the editorial office for five years.
4. The editorial office undertakes to provide copies of reviews to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation upon official request.
5. Peer review is conducted confidentially and anonymously. Reviewers are informed that submitted manuscripts are the private property of the authors and constitute confidential information. Manuscripts are sent to reviewers without the author’s name. Reviewers assess the relevance, scientific novelty, and compliance with the current level of scholarly knowledge, indicate strengths and weaknesses, and make a recommendation regarding publication. Reviewer comments and suggestions may be sent to the author for revision. Substantially revised articles are subject to repeated peer review.
6. The editorial office reserves the right to send the author a reasoned refusal and undertakes to provide copies of reviews to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation upon request.
7. Reviews are sent to authors in electronic document format.
8. The opinions of authors may not coincide with those of the editorial office. Re-publication of materials is permitted only with the written consent of the editorial office.

Compliance with the Principles of Publication Ethics

The editorial policy of the journal is based on the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the European Association of Science Editors (EASE).
Readers have open access to the articles, which corresponds to the Fundamentals of the State Cultural Policy of the Russian Federation and generally contributes to the development of science and the exchange of knowledge.
